Claire Lassonnery is a French contemporary abstract artist whose work constructs, across each painting, a single visual territory: a disc against the horizon, where stability asserts itself in a world in motion. Her work questions how identity endures through transformation, a theme she explores through a fixed formal grammar.
Her paintings are built through successive layers of oil, pigment on canvas. Her practice also extends to wood, mother of pearl and lacquer, exploring how matter carries the traces of its environment. The composition relies on a fixed grammar: three horizontal bands, a disc, a reduced palette. Each work is unique in its finish, unmistakable in its structure.
Holding a PhD in pharmacy, she brings rigour and a research based approach to her practice. She lives and works between France and Malaysia. Her work has been publicly exhibited since 2024 and is held in private collections in Asia and Europe.
Born in France, Claire Lassonnery lives and works between La Baule and Kuala Lumpur. Her practice is shaped by a life built across three continents, yet anchored in the stillness of the studio.
Her abstract paintings construct a single visual territory: a disc against the horizon, where stability asserts itself in a world in motion. A fixed grammar (three bands, a disc, a reduced palette) structures each canvas, while successive layers of oil, pigment and lacquer build surfaces that are unmistakable in their finish.
Holding a PhD in pharmacy and trained in lacquer art under Master Bao in Saigon (2016–2020), she brings scientific rigour to a deeply material practice. Her work extends to wood, mother-of-pearl and lacquer, exploring how matter carries the traces of its environment.
She has been publicly exhibited since 2024, with solo shows including MUTE (AF Penang, 2026) and SUSPENDED BETWEEN 2 WORLDS (AFKL, 2025–2026), and group exhibitions at Artitude Galeria (Singapore), Grimaldi Forum (Monaco), and 1 Hall 1 Artiste at Île Feydeau, (Nantes, 2026).
Her work has been reviewed by Quentin Métayer (Perrotin) and Nathalie Gallon (AICA), and is held in private collections across Asia and Europe.
Painting is my way of remaining myself. In a life built across nine countries, the studio is the only place that remains still.
I seek stability within movement. Each painting asks the same question without answering it: what remains when everything changes? How do we transform without ceasing to be ourselves?
A fixed grammar. A disc. A horizon. Three bands. Always the same structure, never the same painting. This fixed grammar allows each material to speak for itself, revealing its origins, its history, its singular traces.
